Burnout Paradise: Big Surf Date Confirmed

Regular frequenters of this lovely, little website will remember Big Surf Island being mentioned belovedly before. Adding a whole other island to an already big city takes a lot of time, but Criterion will finally deliver on June 11th for the paltry sum of £9.99.

There is also a video below, taken from Criterion’s Crash TV-cast because by saying pod we are pledging brand loyalty.

New GTA 4 DLC: Ballad of Gay Tony

God Bless Rockstar, if they weren’t happy with players having to stare at a certain mayors meat and two berries, we can all be sure their intentions are clear with new downloadable content for Grand Theft Auto 4 named Ballad of Gay Tony. Adding a much needed sense of glitz and glamour to Liberty city the player character is Luis Lopez, lackey hoodlum turned personal assistant to the infamous nightclub celebrity and  entrepreneur, Tony Prince aka Gay Tony (who is pictured left). Having only appeared in two missions previously, one in the original campaign and a further appearance in The Lost and Damned, it seems as though the vast majority of the missions will be entirely new and based on a lengthy new single player story line, just like previous DLC. New Mass Effect DLC

Downloadable content for Mass Effect has been really disappointing, since promising new worlds, scenarios and story lines when Mass Effect was first announced, Bioware just haven’t delivered. Only releasing the pitiful ‘Bring down the Sky’ which didn’t provide players anything new, it did introduce a new race but it was over really before it started. My thoughts on that particular content are rather well known, at least to Gamespot users. Continue reading

Time for Big Surf: Burnout Paradise

What better time than in the heart of the British Summer to release a trailer for the brand new Burnout Paradise expansion, Big Surf Island. Released in early 2008 gold ol’ BP is still going strong with oddles of post release DLC being made, it really does make you fall in the love with the kind people of Criterion Software and wonder why more studios can’t do the same.  The island has been described as pure fun by the developers and almost seems holiday like when compared with the rest of the game, which is ironic because with all this new content, it is probably the closest most of the team at Criterion has had to a holiday recently. Burnout Paradise seems more like a platform now rather than a single game, and it has been transformed multiple times since release with the introduction of a day/night cycle, motorbikes, new cars, new game modes and even my personal favourite Back to the Future rip off, the Jansen ’88.

But this new content which is subtly described as Big Surf Island not only adds new locales to race in but new challenges, achievements, five new cars, and even the promise of new gameplay unlike anything else in the Paradise City. The island will be rougly the size of the downtown area which would equate to about 35% of the overall driving area, if my calculations are corrent. You can see the Guildford based sunshine in a brand new trailer below, the expansion hits Xbox Live, PC via Burnout Store and Playstation Network on June 8th.

Bring your driving flip flops.
