A funny thing about predictions…: Malaysian Grand Prix 2013

They are usually wrong.

Okay so both me and my significant others predictions about the past weekend’s Australian Grand Prix were both hilariously out of kilter, but Malaysia could be different. Here’s the thing, Australia’s short Albert Park circuit is nothing like either China and Malaysia with their long straights and warm temperatures, so tyre degradation shouldn’t be as much as a factor as it was this past Sunday.

Here are the predictions:

Mercedes are closer to the front of the pack than ever before. Could Hammy get his maiden win? We seem to think so.

Talking Point: Räikkönen for the title.

Will it be all smiles for Vettel and Alonso this Sunday?

Girlfriend’s Podium:

1. Hamilton (Mercedes-Benz)
2. Alonso (Ferrari)
3. Vettel (Red Bull Renault)

Drive of the Day: Rosberg

Talking Point: New blood performing better than old in new team partnerships  e.g Perez out performing Button.

For those keeping tally, both my and my partner have no points so far for this season, but I think our Malaysian could be on the money…maybe.

UPDATE:  And here’s the actual result:

Malaysian GP Podium:

  1. Vettel (Red Bull Racing Renault)
  2. Webber (Red Bull Racing Renault)
  3. Hamilton (Mercedes)

Drive of the Day: Rosberg

Talking Point: The problems caused by team orders.

Everyone was talking about the problems of inter-term politics post Malaysian GP. with Hamilton and Rosberg experiencing the issues created by obeying team orders by the letter, whereas Red Bull Racing were on the other end of the equation with Vettel ignoring orders to let Webber win.  Formula One has a history of team orders ruining the closing stages of races and the Malaysian GP was no different. Rather than all four drivers being able to race each other fairly, team orders intervened to make a potentially fascinating end rather anti-climatic.

All that doesn’t really matter though. What matters is that after two races, somebody has finally got a prediction correct! Ms Murphy now has one point on the prediction scale, with her accurate prediction of Rosberg winning the ‘Drive of the Day’ award. That means she leads the prediction leaderboard with one point to nil.

Roll on China!
