What better time than in the heart of the British Summer to release a trailer for the brand new Burnout Paradise expansion, Big Surf Island. Released in early 2008 gold ol’ BP is still going strong with oddles of post release DLC being made, it really does make you fall in the love with the kind people of Criterion Software and wonder why more studios can’t do the same. The island has been described as pure fun by the developers and almost seems holiday like when compared with the rest of the game, which is ironic because with all this new content, it is probably the closest most of the team at Criterion has had to a holiday recently. Burnout Paradise seems more like a platform now rather than a single game, and it has been transformed multiple times since release with the introduction of a day/night cycle, motorbikes, new cars, new game modes and even my personal favourite Back to the Future rip off, the Jansen ’88.
But this new content which is subtly described as Big Surf Island not only adds new locales to race in but new challenges, achievements, five new cars, and even the promise of new gameplay unlike anything else in the Paradise City. The island will be rougly the size of the downtown area which would equate to about 35% of the overall driving area, if my calculations are corrent. You can see the Guildford based sunshine in a brand new trailer below, the expansion hits Xbox Live, PC via Burnout Store and Playstation Network on June 8th.
Bring your driving flip flops.
