A Collectors edition you might actually want – Batman Arkham Asylum

Okay I’ll be the first to admit that I’m a sucker for a good collectors edition, probably why I bought two copies of Halo Legendary Edition. But perhaps working in retail has finally hardened me up to the publishing money spinning exercise which the vast majority of collectors editions actually end up being. That was, until this little beauty came to my attention this morning, spinning into email like the Bat-a-rang everyone of us has always wanted.

No, no, no. You don’t understand it has a Bat-a-rang people! Okay, obviously it won’t look as good as in the mock up, but one has to admit it certainly looks better than most special ed’s. Other highlights include a thoughtfully bound diary, two additional content dvds and even a full colour manual!  The last one is a given but everything else about this box set looks well worth the £60 asking price on play.com. At least it better be as it is currently the only retailer in the UK which will allow gamers to pre-order a copy.

But we should probably mention that their is a game with all this Batman related paraphenelia, this site is Gaming Goodness after all.

The trailer above shows just how nicely the game is shaping up. A dark atmospheric experience which reunites voice actors Mark Hamill, Arleen Sorkin, Kevin Conroy from their glory days on Batman: The Aniharleyarkhamasylummated Series. It is amazing to see these three back in their fantastic voice roles which used to light up most Saturday mornings during the ninties, its like they never stopped. The gameplay looks  interesting and the design is taking Gotham into some refreshing places, infusing Nolans popular imprint on to a classic template which results into some dramatic results. A bit too sexed up to be honest, but it does symbolise the catch all audience Eidos wants to seduce.

A debut title from Rocksteady Studios which fills the Batman game gap which the Dark Knight film tie-in was supposed to fill. Its shaping up very well and is fast becoming the title to look most forward to this summer, we’ll find out on Friday June 19th.

It had better be good, otherwise my £60 Bat-a-rang would just be worthless, right?
